GRSE Embarks on Hybrid Ferry Journey with New West Bengal Project
The West Bengal government has awarded Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd a contract for 13 state-of-the-art hybrid ferries, set to transform passenger transportation in the region. This development is a strategic move in GRSE's expansion into the passenger vessel sector.
The ambitious project will see these ferries, designed with catamaran hulls and constructed using aluminium and fiber reinforced polymer, navigate the bustling waters of River Hooghly. The initiative follows a successful prototype launch earlier this year, underscoring GRSE's commitment to environmental sustainability.
Once completed, these vessels will operate under the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, providing efficient and eco-friendly transit across National Waterway 1. The advanced vessels will vary in capacity, with some accommodating up to 200 passengers.
